How does fasting cause bad breath?
The answer to this question is hidden in the way the body finds energy supplies for its metabolic processes.
The main source of energy for the body is glucose and it obtains it from breaking up the fats from foods like milk, bread, pasta, etc.
But, when you remove fats from your diet, you restrict, at the same time, the body’s main source of energy supplies.
As a result, the body looks for alternative ways to meet its energy demands and breaks down the fat stores.
In the process, ketone bodies are released, which exit through the breath, giving it an acetone smell.
