12 Personal Grooming Activities for Adults

It’s said that human beauty comes from within while the external appearance reflects his or her inner world. Its secret lies in the harmony of inner and outer beauty.

These are the kind of people who, at first sight, are not gifted with natural beauty but, after meeting and talking to them in person, they seem so attractive and interesting that you fall under their charm.

Many people say that these people are talented or lucky, which, of course, can be true. But, in most cases, the truth is that they follow personal hygiene checklists and apply regular grooming activities to maintain an attractive physical appearance.

Coco Chanel said it best:

“Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.”

If you want to be well-groomed and beautiful, you don’t need to go to a beauty salon every day. Your beauty depends primarily on your regular efforts and personal grooming that you perform at home.

See below a list of grooming activities.

1. Maintain a good physical shape

A good body shape is slim and fit.

To maintain this kind of natural body shape, you have to workout or do any type of physical activity. Physical activity strengthens the muscles in your arms, legs, thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and abs, which doesn't let the blood and the lymphatic system stagnate within the body.

Take care of your face and skin

2. Wash your face daily

Wash your face two times per day at least. After that, dry it out by gently tapping the towel on the skin to absorb the water droplets from the face.

If you have acne, consider washing your face with products containing salicylic and benzoyl peroxide to get rid of them.

If you wear makeup, wash it off every night before sleep.

3. Moisturize your skin

Only clean and healthy skin looks beautiful! Agree?

Unfortunately, with age, the skin’s look and health worsen and maintaining its condition requires more attention from you.

Of course, you can use cosmetics to hide skin imperfection but the problem with cosmetics is that they masks the problem only for a short while. Cosmetics can't get your skin rid of the skin imperfection permanently such as age wrinkles, clogged pores, and rough skin on the heels. Remember:

Skincare doesn’t relate only to removing dirt off the skin but also to removing dead particles using such tools as scrubs or pumice stones.

To extend the appearance of premature wrinkles, nourish and moisturize the skin regularly.

Don't expose your face and body to aggressive sun light. If this is unavoidable, use a sunscreen.

Every time, after showering, apply lotion onto your body to keep your skin from drying out or flaking. Pay special attention to your knees and elbows, which tend to have very dry skin.

4. Maintain your facial hair

Pay attention to your facial hair.

Pluck out any stray hairs. Especially between the eyebrows.

If you shave, do it gently. Use lubricating shaving cream to prevent cuts on your skin. At the same time, use a sharp razor that has no dirt between the blades.

Always shave according to your hair growth.

Maintain good hygiene

5. Take showers regularly

Some experts believe that showering every other day is a must but this depends on how much you sweat and whether your body smells bad after that or not.

When showering, avoid exfoliating or hard soaps because these type of products dry out and removes the moisture from your skin.

6. Maintain a good oral hygiene

It’s recommended to brush your teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste.

The process is simple.

Moisten the toothbrush and squeeze a small amount of toothpaste onto it. Gently brush each tooth in a circular motion brushing the front, back, and sides.

After brushing, wash the toothbrush and, using its bristles, brush your tongue. This removes the plaque from the surface of the tongue, which is often the main cause of bad breath.

Change your toothbrush every three months, or whenever the bristles begin to wear out and bend.

7. Floss

Gently run the floss your teeth between the teeth moving it from top to bottom and around the base of each tooth to remove food debris.

I usually floss my teeth before brushing. In this way, I get rid of the food from between the teeth where the toothbrush bristle may not achieve. After that, I brush my teeth.

8. Use antiperspirants and deodorants

Use over-the-counter antiperspirants or deodorants. They decrease sweating throughout the day and prevent your body from releasing body odor.

The best way to apply them is after having a shower. After you dried out with a towel apply them under your arms.

Maintain proper hair and nail care

9. Massage the conditioner into the hair roots and scalp

After shampooing your hair, rinse it thoroughly. After that apply the conditioner onto the hair and massage it into the scalp. Comb your hair to distribute the conditioner throughout the entire length of the hair.

If you have dandruff, consider using a special shampoo which treats the this issue.

If you don’t wash your hair every day, use dry shampoo to keep your hair from looking dirty and greasy.

10. Comb and style your hair

Comb your hair every day.

Avoid applying a lot of styling products onto your hair or it will look greasy.

If you have long hair, brush it more than once per day to prevent it from tangling.

11. Trim your nails

At all times, keep your nails short, tidy, and clean.

Always trim them with nail clippers or nail scissors.

Don’t ever bite your nails.

If you have long nails, clean the dirt from underneath the nail with soap, water, and an old toothbrush.

12. Moisturize your hands

To prevent the skin on the hands from drying out, moisturize them regularly.

Prevent the growth of bacteria by keeping your nails dry and clean.

The condition of the nails says a lot about your neatness, status, and how you feel about yourself.

By the way, wear gloves when you engage in any type of housekeeping work to maintain the health of the skin on the hands.
